VIETNAM REALITY
The foreign tax.
Not always money. Often time, confusion, weaker service, or the assumption that you can absorb more nonsense.
VIETNAM REALITY
The foreign tax.
Foreigners in Vietnam often pay extra without seeing a proper line item. It shows up as higher quoted prices, vaguer guidance, outsourced inconvenience, weaker aftercare, selective urgency, or soft opportunism.
Sometimes this is deliberate. Sometimes it is structural. Sometimes it is simply what happens when you are visibly outside the local network.
The answer is not paranoia. The answer is calibration.
- Know what is normal.
- Know what is opportunistic.
- Know what is culturally rough but routine.
- Know which questions are worth asking harder.
You do not need to become cynical. You do need to become harder to misread.
